A Top Ten Memoir: 1968 - "Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end..."

Listening to my Top Ten of 1968 recently while on a hike it struck me how melancholy so many of the songs are.  They speak of loneliness, darkness, and a general sense of despair over loved ones, lost moments, and distant times.  The exceptions may be Stoned Soul Picnic and Jumpin’ Jack Flash.  So what gives with choosing these types of songs when, at t…
