There are just two songs I want to highlight this week. Both grabbed me pretty quickly in the last week or so.
Easy Lover – Miley Cyrus
Cyrus’s last single End of the World wasn’t a big hit with radio or streaming but I couldn’t get enough of it. It is still on my current playlist. This new one though from her just released Something Beautiful album is a bit closer in style to her massive hit Flowers from two years ago. It’s not a carbon copy by any means though. Whereas End of the World is a big pop production which at times casts Cyrus’s vocals aside, Easy Lover, has a slower, driving beat that never overtakes her raspy-ness while clearly emphasizing the lyrics about a “love that I always needed.” Unlike Flowers, she “just can’t give you up.” Do audiences prefer the strong independence expressed in Flowers or a message that is gritty but clingy? We’ll see. Either way, it’s worth checking out.
Catching Feelings – Cerrone & Christine and the Queens
Cerrone was a major influential producer during the disco era in the 1970s. He’s still around making music that bridges beyond those early recordings into something more modern while still infusing a track like the new Catching Feelings with techno beats, a catchy chorus, and clear vocals by Christine and the Queens. The song reminds me a lot of the gay club music I was hearing in the 1980s and in that sense, feels nostalgic yet fresh. It’s nice to feel that dancefloor sound again! Why hasn’t anyone ever thought of the line, “Don’t be afraid of catching feelings from me” before?
What do you think of these new tunes?

I enjoyed both of these videos quite a bit. I normally would not see them as I don't follow current pop music at all. Miley has certainly proved her talent over the years since she first started. The other singer was one that I had never even heard of. There is so much music out there that we end up missing tons of it.
Never really paid much attention to Miley but perhaps it’s time I did!
