Two new(ish) songs made my weekly Top Ten this week and they couldn’t be more different…
let me see urs - SOCKiTTOME & Youth Sector
Last week I included Youth Sector’s latest Gods Work in my list. This week I’m adding a duet of sorts with SOCKiTTOME. First, let me say I never quite understand why some artists choose to put their song titles in lower case AND this time also uppercase (except for one letter) the letters of their name. What’s the point?! Anyway, I really like this quick (2 minutes and 4 seconds) track. It gets right into its groove with a fade-in and pounding beat. Later some 80s sounding synthesizers show up along with a very catchy chorus. The briefness of the song means it never outstays its welcome and revels in its quick energy. SOCKiTTOME is an indie pop artist/producer. Youth Sector hails from the U.K.
Camera – Suzan Kocher’s Suprafon
This track is from Suzan Kocher’s Suprafon’s October 2024 album, In These Dying Times. It embraces the power of a camera to take us into the past: “We can take a photograph (Camera), Memories are fading fast (Take me back.)” I certainly understand the power of photographs and camera-recorded live action. If you read my Top Ten Memoir on Substack last year, you know that my mother recorded everything we did growing up. When she died, I inherited all of her photos and videos and included them in a documentary film I made called Harriet & Her Husbands. Since then I’ve done a number of projects where I pull together narratives with the sheer volume of recorded images I have, thus preserving their memories. This song beautifully captures the sentiment of “holding on to something that lasts.” On its website, the band notes that they “seamlessly blend Psychedelia, Dream Pop, Krautrock, Disco, 60s influences, Desert Americana and cinematic Soundtrack elements” in their music. Wow! I think you can hear some of that in Camera.
What do you think? Do either of these songs grab you? What’s new to you this week?

Love the Suzan Kocher track. Gorgeous and lush/hypnotic. Can’t say I liked the first one much but maybe my mood right now is more aligned with Suzan.
Thanks, Dan... my ears are always open to new musics.
