1965 features some of my favorite music of the decade. The songs reflect anger, lost youth, escapism, and burgeoning sexuality. Of course, I was only two that year and looking far from rebellious… However, many of the great artists of the era made some pretty classic tunes! Not one but four Beatles’ songs made my Top Ten. It is this mid-period of their music that I’ve always liked the most. Their arrangements became more interesting and their songwriting was stepped up with some deeper lyrics.
I remember what giant hits some of these were. Downtown and Satisfaction skyrocketed Petula Clark and The Stones to lasting careers. Petula Clark is still with us at 91 (had the pleasure of seeing her on Broadway in Blood Brothers and talking to her afterwards) and the Stones are still touring! Reading this brings back so many of my own memories

And every one of these artists with the exception of a few Beatles and some 4 Tops are still with us!
Another enjoyable chapter. My older sister had “Downtown” on 45. She played it a lot!
