I'm a huge fan of Mike Leigh, but when I saw the trailer for this, I wasn't sold. It felt predictable and cliché. That said, Leigh is a master at observational character drama (and making commentary on the British class system). I'm sure I will eventually watch it, but probably not at the cinema.

Yes, I like a lot of his work too. I'd love to hear what you think after you see it. I know a lot of people are touting Marianne Jean-Baptiste for an Oscar nomination but I just didn't see enough of an arc in her character.

I really want to see this, even with some of the challenges the film presents. Marianne Jean-Baptiste is an outstanding actress and the Mike Leigh direction is too hard to pass up.

Yes, I really like her too. This one just became increasingly hard to watch.

"...in the case of Virgil and Moses, sit in silence while taking Pansy’s incessant verbal abuse..."

My mother has complained more than once about the fact that my father and I don't talk much during dinner. I'm afraid this might happen in real life...

You're probably right! In the case of the film one would think the characters would react to her incessant and angry complaints!
