As you attempt to eradicate buckthorn, I dig out knapweed one annoying plant at a time. Since I'm landscaping former ranch land, I don't have any mature trees (yet) so ticks aren't an issue during gardening, only when hiking. Mosquitos are problematic at dusk only... but let's not talk about the interior of Alaska!
Not now, but I will be by the end of July-- staying for a month or so. Two years ago the mosquitos were ferocious in the interior. This year word-of-mouth tells me they're not too bad.
I think those tomatoes on the right that are pretty tall are the ones I gave him :-)
The movable tomato contraptions are pretty clever.
F-ing buckthorn is the bane of our existence. Every couple of weeks Lauren and I have to go buckthorn hunting. You're definitely on the right track pulling and digging. You can't just cut them down they'll come back stronger. We found a couple that were pretty thick and there was no way we're gonna pull them out. We've discovered that if you cut them pretty low to the ground and then drill a hole in the stump you can fill it with brush killer, and it will kill the buckthorn.
Love, your new hedge trimmer. We have one of those too. You may need a third battery lol.
My life is, as you know, extremely urban. My main contact with nature is a stroll in London’s glorious parks on lunch breaks, and holidays abroad. In neither of these cases will you see me doing anything other than relaxing from frantic keyboard tapping 🤣 All this to say, it’s so cool to see stuff like this, working the land and being in “real” contact with nature, as it’s so remote and so far removed from my daily life. Well done!

Interesting. Are you in Alaska?

Like bringing a shark into a goldfish bowl.
Buckthorn history is interesting. One of many screw ups when humans brought invasive species in and destroyed indigenous habitat.
